The Municipality of Galtellì promotes and organizes the «Reeds in the wind» literary prize 2021 edition. The below detailed terms and conditions set out its implementation and the participation of the authors.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
The aim of the Literary Competition is promoting knowledge and research related to Grazia Deledda, the first woman in Italy to be rewarded with the Nobel Prize for Literature. The competition will be held in Sardinia, the place where Grazia Deledda was born, particularly in Galtellì, where the writer set the novel “Reeds in the Wind”.
The competition is open to anyone aged 18 or over. International participants are welcome, entries can be written in Italian, Sardinian, English, French and Spanish.
Participation is free of charge. Each participant will be responsible for sending his/her short story by email as described in the following articles.
“Reeds in the Wind” competition is divided in two separate sections:
• Section A – Reserved for short stories written in Italian, English, French and Spanish. With a minimum number of 5,000 and a maximum of 7,000 characters, including spaces, entries will have to explore Deledda’s main themes in the novel Canne al vento/Reeds in the wind: from the religious sentiment to the peculiarities of social classes, from the description of the anthropological-cultural and environmental dimension to the defense of identity, etc. Entries submitted late or off-topic or which do not comply with the number of characters previously indicated will be disqualified.
• Section B – Reserved for short stories in Sardinian language.

The due date for entries delivery is August 31, 2021 at 11.59 PM.
Finalists will be announced on October 1, 2021. They will be invited to participate at the Award Ceremony in Galtellì on October 16th.
Entries must be sent to the following email address:
firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line «Reeds in the windliterary prize». In the text of the email each participant will have to clearly indicate his/her phone number and email address.
In addition, the following application material are required:
• ID document of the participant
• A motivation letter concerning the topic addressed in the story presented (max 1 page)
Entries submitted late or off-topic or which do not comply with the number of characters previously indicated will be disqualified. TheMunicipality of Galtellì will not be liable for any document that does not comply with the given instructions.
Competition participation implies that participants fully agree to the provisions of these Regulations and authorizes the Municipality of Galtellì to process their personal data in the terms permitted by Legislative Decree 196/2003 and by EU Regulation 2016/679.
Personal data will be processed exclusively for purposes connected with the prize, using IT and / or paper methods, to be used on the basis of the principles of correctness, lawfulness and transparency and protection of confidentiality and rights, according to the procedures of Legislative Decree Lgs 30 June 2003 n. 196 “Code regarding the protection of personal data” and EU Regulation 2016/679. The data controller is the Municipality of Galtellì.
To this end, the following declaration must be inserted at the bottom of the notes accompanying participants entries as part of the application materials under penalty of invalidity of the participation itself:
Pursuant to and for the purposes of Legislative Decree 30 June 2003, n.196 and EU Regulation 2016/679, I authorize the processing of my data in the manner indicated in Article 6 of the Regulations of the International Literary Prize “Canne al vento/Reeds in the wind”.
The International Jury will consist of five members, including the president, chosen among personalities from the literary scene. The jury’s decision is final and unappealable.
Information about the Prize will be available on the web site:
https://www.janeaustensardegna.com/ and at the following facebook pages: “Premio Letterario Internazionale “Canne al vento” di Galtellì and “Il Club di Jane Austen Sardegna- Circolo Letterario Femminile”.
Winners’ names will be disclosed at the award ceremony as described in article 10.
The ex-aequo arbitration is not permitted.
Winners will be awarded as follows:
The 1st classified for Section A: € 1,000.00.
The 1st classified for Section B: € 1,000.00.
Finalists must attend the award ceremony in order to receive the prize. The Award Ceremony will take place on Saturday October 16, 2021 in Galtellì, Sardinia, Italy.
The municipality of Galtellì will fund the publication of all finalists’ short stories, as well as their hospitality during the award ceremony.
Finalists will be reimbursed for their travel expenses according to the terms and conditions of the literary prize and until a maximum amount. Travel expenses will be recognized only and exclusively through travel documents, invoices and receipts fiscally valid and related to routes that do not include personal stages to other intermediate destinations. The amounts are meant to cover for only the finalist’s travel expenses, not for his / her traveling partners.
Any other travel cost which exceeds the maximum amount will be at the expense of the finalists.
The jury reserves the right to assign one more prize: the “Grazia Deledda special prize” to a person who has distinguished himself or herself in the international and national cultural and literary panorama.
All communications will take place by means of a notice published on the internet channels appointed in the previous sections. In any case, the Municipality of Galtellì reserves the right to publish notices in the main regional newspapers and / or to send direct communications to individual participants via email.
Participants will be responsible for accessing the appointed channels to check for any publication or news about the competition in progress.

No objection can be addressed to the Municipality of Galtellì for failure to read one or more notices sent by participants through other channels.
All rights on the name, logo, image and contents related to “Reeds inthe Wind” International Literary Prize are reserved to the Municipality of Galtellì. Any use connected to it must be authorized by the Municipality of Galtellì itself.
