Check out the December Literary 2023 program!

The eighth edition of Dicembre Letterario, the cultural festival organized by the Jane Austen Sardinia Club under the artistic direction of Giuditta Sireus, is approaching, closing the association’s annual journey with numerous guests and moments of discussion. After the reading promotion workshops and the many activities organized throughout the island throughout the year, Saturday, November 25 will kick off a series of events in line with the topic that inspired all the 2023 initiatives.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 25 | SASSARI
The eighth edition of Literary December will begin in Sassari on Nov. 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, with the event Word, Singular, Feminine.
Using a formula successfully proposed in the previous edition of the festival, the performers and guests of the meeting will voice monologues focused on the word in relation to various areas of culture. They will feature performer, director and actress Chiara Murru, poet Anna Segre, the cultural association Quiteria, which will remember two great women originally from Sassari, Eva Mameli and Adelasia Cocco, the Councillor of Equality of the Region of Sardinia Tiziana Putzolu, poet and musician Vincenzo Cossu, and the musical group Le Balentes. Simonetta Selloni will coordinate the evening. The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Pegasus Hotel.

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 1 | SASSARI
The second day of the festival will feature writer and editor Ciro Auriemma, who recently returned to bookstores with the historical novel La lama e l’inchiostro (Piemme), which he will present in dialogue with Emiliano Longobardi. Appointment at the University Library at 5:30 p.m.

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 3 | CAGLIARI
The third meeting, to be held at the Intrepid Monelli Theater at 9 p.m., will feature guest musician and writer Lory Muratti, who will present his book Torno per dirvi tutto (Miraggi Editions). The event is held in collaboration with the Literary Circus Festival.

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 8 | NUORO
The middle appointment of the Literary December will be dedicated to Jane Austen and fiction set in the Regency era: at 4:30 p.m., in Spazio Ilisso, essayist and scholar Giuseppe Ierolli will offer a critical rereading of Sense and Sensibility, a well-known novel by the English writer after whom the Club is named.

At 6:30 p.m., Felicia Kingsley will present Una ragazza d’altri tempi (Newton Compton) at ExMè in conversation with Giuditta Sireus. Published last Sept. 5, the novel, set in 1816 London, immediately topped the sales charts, confirming the Emilian author as one of the most beloved in Italy. The event will feature the extraordinary participation of the Club’s women readers in historical dress.

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 10 | VILLACIDRO
The literary meetings will continue in Villacidro’s Literary Café with two homegrown authors:
at 5:30 p.m., Cristina Caboni will present her new novel La collana di cristallo (Garzanti) in dialogue with Federica Musu; followed at 7 p.m. by Francesco Abate with his third novel dedicated to Clara Simon, Il misfatto della tonnara (Einaudi). The introduction will be by Giuditta Sireus.

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 15 | CAGLIARI
The Literary December will conclude in the elegant Villa Vivaldi in Cagliari with the event Una cena in compagnia di Grazia, a food and wine and literary tribute to Grazia Deledda realized in collaboration with the cultural association Menù Deleddiano and with the exclusive participation of Giacomo Brunoro, president of the 800 Padova Festival. The evening will be enhanced by readings curated by actress Rita Atzeri. The dinner will include a participation fee. Proceeds will go to the association The Jane Austen Club for initiatives dedicated to the literary club’s 10-year anniversary, which will take place in 2024.
